Finally: Democratic Leaders and White House Reach Deal on $2 Trillion Infrastructure Plan
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) spoke to the press April 30, 2019 following a meeting with President Trump on infrastructure.
Pelosi and Schumer both characterized the meeting as constructive. “It’s clear that both the White House and all of us want to get some things done on infrastructure in a big and bold way,” said Schumer.
According to CNN Money last February, President Trump’s goal was to “…turn $200 billion in federal money into $1.5 trillion for fixing America’s infrastructure by leveraging local and state tax dollars and private investment.” While this new tentative agreement would significantly improve the budget, future talks are expected to outline a clear strategy describing how the plan will be paid for.
